Description
An echo of the Material Plane, layered over the same ground rather than sitting somewhere else. The geography answers to ours — where we have a hill it has a crag, where we have a wood it has an older and hungrier wood — but it is brighter, wilder, and governed by emotion instead of sense. It is Shadowfell’s opposite number: the same world, felt rather than measured.
You cross at a fey crossing, a place where the veil is thin. Most only open on a condition — a full moon, a particular dawn, or someone carrying the right thing — and a crossing closes for good if the land at either end is changed enough. The one we know is the circle of sugar in the basement of The Sabertooth Tavern in Carrowyn: a pocket of dough, a pat on the head, and in you go. The Laughing Root is on the other side.
Time does not keep faith with ours. A day there can be an hour or a year back here; we lost three days on a single afternoon. Leaving can cost you the memory of it as well — a DC 10 WIS save, which fey and anything with Fey Ancestry pass automatically, and which only leaves the memories hazy even when you make it.
What we know
- Payquyne was hunting the 12 Artifacts to hide them here, the one place The Unknown never touched. Bruce is still trying to finish that work
- Rithas conjectures the group siphoning power out of Iskar’Thul and Shadowfell is siphoning from here too
- A small girl wearing red is stuck out back of The Laughing Root, and says V put her there
