Theodore Shellington is a Junior Arcanist from the island of Aubertide, where he spent many of his formative years on its beaches before joining the Institute of Interdisciplinary Magic (IIM) to study the origins of his most prized possession: a mysterious, barnacle-encrusted driftwood staff. His life of academic cataloging in the Institute’s “Salt Vaults” was cut short when the Deep-Core Metallics Corporation (DCMC) arrived to mine a massive underwater mithril deposit, eventually shifting from an economic partner to a brutal occupying force. After a violent altercation involving a DCMC executive led to a crackdown on the local population, the corporation established a military presence that turned the island into a “high-risk zone” characterized by exploitation and resource control. Following a night of chaos where DCMC mercenaries moved to crush a brewing resistance, Theodore was forced to flee his burning home and hide in coastal caves before eventually smuggling himself off the island. Now a displaced survivor, he travels with the singular goal of gathering the power and allies necessary to liberate Aubertide from the corporation’s grip
