Summary
Two days south at The Crazy One’s House, the party found the place stripped bare except for a family painting that was really a portal; the brass key opened the chest behind it, holding The Mirror Of What Is. The mirror showed each of them a scene instead of a reflection — Cal saw the moment they were given their gift — and once sealed, it whispered accusations meant to turn the party against each other. Downstairs, Yharov caught V finishing a ritual circle. She admitted she has been using them to collect the artifacts all along, cursed Roz with Fuck Your Mind, pointed them toward Carrowyn, and gave them twelve hours before The Executioner came. Ferrar flew them south with Theratina safe aboard, and Myrrh’s Hollow died screaming behind them. At The Shaded Cavern they found The Blue Apprentice, who warned that someone dies whether they ran or stood their ground, then weakened The Executioner with Get On My Level so they could kill it. A Sending from Diana as they left proved V had been lying about her.
Events
- As we wake up, we see Eisuke walk out from behind a tree
- We decide to find The Crazy One’s House
- We arrive at Myrrh’s Hollow South
- It takes 2 days
At Myrrh’s Hollow South
- On the north end of town, we find The Crazy One’s House
At The Crazy One’s House
- Looking in the window, we see that clearly someone left in a hurry
- The key that The Crazy One gave us is far too big for the keyhole
- The door is unlocked, though; we go in
- There seems to be a layer of ash or similar on the ground
- Everything is taken except for a single untouched painting
- It is a painting of The Crazy One’s family
- His wife had brown hair and they had 2 children
- Theodore tries to cast Detect Magic and gets Counterspelled
- When Yharov touches the painting, his hand goes in
- It seems to be some sort of portal
- Downstairs, we hear footsteps
- Yharov sticks his face in the painting
- It leads to a small boxed room
- There is a single object: a golden chest with a keyhole
- He gets the key and opens the chest
- Inside is an ordinary-looking handheld mirror
- He takes it out of the painting and tries to look at his reflection
- He sees a young version of himself, scared and alone
- Roz tries looking into it
- He sees a man (not himself) walking in a place he can’t quite describe
- He is clearly lost
- Raelor uses the Hat of Disguise to look like the father from the painting
- He then looks into the mirror
- He sees the man at a long dinner table with a mountain of food between him and his family, although the family is not anyone from the painting
- They are all laughing joyfully but he is too far to even witness it
- Every time the mirror is tapped, it changes to a different but metaphorically similar situation
- Raelor drops his disguise. He sees the same exact thing
- Theodore takes a look
- He sees an entire village being ransacked
- He sees a small individual with a very tall wizard’s hat
- notebook with a sleeping face on its cover is vibrating
- We take it out
- We go to the end and a new image appears of a handheld mirror
- Before we put the mirror inside, Eisuke wants to take a look
- He sees someone who he claims is The Realm Jumper
- Cal also gives it a look
- They are walking through cold, icy plains
- They see a small Tabaxi woman following an old man
- The old man falls over and he gives something to the woman
- It is as if light leaves his body and goes to the woman
- This was when they got their gift
- We put the mirror inside and words appear below:
- Raelor fails a wisdom saving throw
- He hears and is convinced that “One of them are lying to you. One of them are working for V”
- Eisuke fails one next
- “They took something from you”
- Yharov passes a charisma save
- Theodore fails a charisma save
- “Why does he keep telling you what to do? You didn’t come here to take orders from a man in armor; you came to save your family”
- Cal passes a charisma save
- They still hear, “All these people have ever done is shut you up. You were given an ability; when were you able to use it? The amount of stories stripped from your hands. That’s on them.”
In the basement
- During this, Yharov snuck into the basement
- There is a ritual circle with V in the center
- She doesn’t detect Yharov
- She is trying to finish the glyphs she is writing on the circle
- He throws oil to try to stop her from writing
- “You’re early. I guess that charm didn’t work on you.”, she says
- Yharov passes a wisdom save
- He also yells to us upstairs
- We all go down
- Amidst complains about us annoying her, one thing that struck me was
- “I convinced [[]] to look past you killing a Hag…”
- Amidst our realization that V is using us to collect the artifacts for her, Roz goes and shakes her hand (pretending he wants to join her)
- He tries to cast Remove Curse on her
- It does nothing
- She casts a custom spell on him: Fuck Your Mind
- “I will give you a day head start before The Executioner comes”, she says
- She then reduces our time to 12 hours
- As we leave, she says is “If I were you guys, I would look in Carrowyn for the next artifact. Thankfully now, you can do two things at once to speed things up for us.”
Coming up with a plan
- Eisuke explains The Executioner
- One of The Unknown’s soliders who is 15 feet tall, wrapped in chains
- It is so fast that it hits you without you even seeing it
- Cal uses Read Thoughts Probe Deeper on Eisuke to see what The Executioner looks like
- They can share what they see with us, so we all see it
- Theodore Messages Ferrar to ask for help
- He claims to be watching over Theratina
- While brainstorming ideas, Jimmothy suggests we try to get help from an apprentice of the Three Wizards
- “Theres a rumor there’s one in the The Shaded Cavern”
- Eisuke mentions that he’s never heard of Myrrh’s Hollow
- Presumably it gets destroyed soon or in the war
- Eisuke also mentions how The Three Wizards spoke to him and their group in a dream, which was what began their group’s quest
- We decide to warn the locals to evacuate and then we head south to The Shaded Cavern
- We see Ferrar’s Airship on the road and he picks us up
On Ferrar’s Airship
- Theratina is here; we ask her about what happened
- She says they got ambushed in The Tail’s End
- They “sung a song” and complained it didn’t work
- They seemingly tried to charm them
- People with guns came and Ferrar helped defend them
- Werebears attacked, too
- Theratina shows us that she learned Fireball
- Fortunately it doesn’t effect any of us
- She learned sculpt spells
- We take a nap, and after 12 hours we awake to a horrifying sound
- It is coming from Myrrh’s Hollow
- The entire Vel’Therin Expanse must have heard it
- Jimmothy mentions that even they heard the noise in the heavens
- Eventually we reach The Shaded Cavern
At The Shaded Cavern
- We disembark and Jimmothy guides us to the apprentice
- We come upon a house
- The man inside tells us to go away
- “You should be in Carrowyn”
- He is clearly nervous
- He keeps saying we aren’t supposed to be here
- He eventually lets us in
- His won’t give us his name but tell us to call him The Blue Apprentice
- He also claims he isn’t supposed to be in “our story”
- I repeatedly got the vibe that he is a timeline manager or something
- He keeps talking about how “the story” is “supposed” to go
- He claims he can’t help us fight but “can make it even”
- Presumably he can weaken it in some way
- He continues to tell us how the Three Wizards are the ones who know exactly what is going to happen
- He mentions something about Yharov later dying if we go, and Theodore later being killed by Roz (on the full moon) if we stay
- The The Executioner’s sounds off nearby
- We go outside and see it
- The Blue Apprentice casts Get On My Level on it
- We fight and kill it
- When it dies, it seemed to turn into the same goo from when one calls on the Coin of The Unknown
- The Blue Apprentice storms back into his house
- He still wants us to go to Carrowyn
- We decide to go
- Ferrar will take us
On Ferrar’s Airship (again)
- Eisuke vanishes yet again
- As the ship takes off, Raelor receives a two-part Sending message from Diana
- “From Diana: Hope you are well. Paid for this. Owe me. Starting to hire. Lots of prospering people coming on…”
- “…board. Hope your adventures are well. Miss you very much.”
- A painting from her also teleports to him that she made for him
- We end the session on our way to Carrowyn
